Big rig fire stops all traffic on I-20 West
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - A tractor-trailer rig caught fire on Interstate 20 in Shreveport, prompting the temporary closure of the highway, then apparently rekindled hours later.
On Sunday (Sept. 3) at 10:38 a.m., 911 records showed there was a fire emergency on I-20 at Pines Road. Several units responded, and LaDOTD tweeted that westbound I-20 was closed to all traffic due to the incident.
At 10:43 a.m., units from Caddo Fire District 3 were dispatched to I-20 at Pines Road to help Shreveport Fire Department by providing water for an 18-wheeler that was on fire.
“Unit 313 arrived on scene and provided water to the Shreveport Engine 13 while SFD firefighters extinguished the fire,” a Facebook post states. “I-20 was shut down while the crews worked by SPD and Signal 51 Group supplied water and Gatorade to all involved.”
At 3:17 p.m., dispatch records show, Shreveport firefighters were summoned back out to I-20W at Pines Road because the tractor-trailer rig was on fire again.
